Dumars: Decision to suspend Draymond Green was ‘difficult’

NBA executive vice president Joe Dumars said Wednesday that the decision to suspend Golden State’s Draymond Green for Game 3 of the Warriors’ first-round series against Sacramento was difficult, and wasn’t made without serious consideration of many factors.Dumars, who oversees the league’s basketball operations and sanctions for on-court incidents, said Tuesday night that Green would sit a game for stepping on the chest of Kings center Domantas Sabonis. That incident happened midway during the fourth quarter of Game 2 on Monday night. Green was ejected for the play, and the league escalated the punishment a day later.“This was not some snap-of-the-finger decision to do this,” Dumars said. “There was much discussion, and back and forth, looking at the play itself over and over. And then ultimately we came to the decision that the act itself, and repeat offenses, actually did warrant a suspension.”Green spent several moments gesturing at and yelling to the crow...La mataron a batazos: asesinaron a su profesora de español por una mala calificación

LONDON (AP) — England test coach Brendon McCullum has not breached anti-corruption regulations by being the brand ambassador for a betting company, the England and Wales Cricket Board said Wednesday. The New Zealander has had a partnership with 22Bet and appeared in a series of advertisements for the Cyprus-based bookmaker, including encouraging people to bet on the Indian Premier League on his social media channels. The ECB looked into the matter and said its anti-corruption code does not prevent players or coaches from becoming brand ambassadors for betting organizations.“Discussions have been ongoing with Brendon over the last few days and the matter has been considered from an employer and regulator perspective,” the ECB said. “We can confirm that no further action will be taken.”The ECB’s anti-corruption code bans participants from betting on games and “directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, persuading or encouraging any other party to enter into a bet...Study: Milder autism far outpacing ‘profound’ diagnoses

NEW YORK (AP) — As autism diagnoses become increasingly common, health officials have wondered how many U.S. kids have relatively mild symptoms and how many have more serious symptoms, such as very low IQ and inability to speak. A first-of-its-kind study released Wednesday shows the rate of such “profound” autism is rising, though far slower than milder autism cases.“It’s very important to know how many people have profound autism so that we can properly prepare for their needs,” including more health and education services, said Alison Singer, executive director of the advocacy and research group Autism Science Foundation.Singer — the mother of a 25-year-old woman with profound autism — was a co-author of the paper, which was published by the journal Public Health Reports. Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention led the research.Though autism has been diagnosed for at least 80 years, the new study is the first to put a number on the share of U.S. ch...Sports on TV for Thursday, April 20

DADEVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Two teenagers have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with an Alabama shooting that killed four young people at a Sweet 16 birthday party, investigators announced Wednesday.District Attorney Mike Segrest said the pair would be charged as adults and that prosecutors would ask a judge to hold them without bail. A bond hearing must be held by Friday under Alabama law.He said four people remain in the hospital in critical condition and that more charges would be coming.“We’re going to make sure all those victims have justice, not just the deceased,” Segrest said.Saturday’s violence shocked Dadeville, a sleepy town of 3,200. In addition to the four young people who died, another 32 were wounded, some critically. The gunfire broke out at a birthday party for Alexis Dowdell, which was being held at a dance studio just off the town’s courthouse square. The EU’s brawl over whether to pay for border fencing has spilled into the European Parliament. On Wednesday, EU lawmakers approved a controversial amendment endorsing the use of EU funds to help support border barriers, although it stopped short of explicitly recommending Brussels pay for walls — long a verboten subject that has nonetheless gained momentum of late. The amendment almost instantly became a poison pill, as lawmakers then killed the broader bill it was attached to — which offered budget guidance for the European Commission — rather than move it through with the added text on border funds. The amendment — which came from the center-right European People’s Party (EPP), Parliament’s largest group — passed with a hodgepodge coalition of lawmakers across the political spectrum, some of whom defied their party line to support the text. It cleared with 322 votes in favor and 290 against, according to public voting records. The EPP’s home aff...This isn’t the end of Fox’s legal headaches. Here’s what’s next

(CNN) — Dominion Voting Systems’ blockbuster defamation case against Fox News is over after the right-wing network cuts a check for a staggering $787 million, but there’s still an avalanche of pending lawsuits that are seeking accountability from the right-wing figures who championed false claims about the 2020 election. After more than two years of legal wrangling, Fox reached a last-second settlement with Dominion on Tuesday as the case raced toward opening statements, agreeing to the biggest publicly known defamation payout by a US media company in history.More lawsuits — and perhaps more settlements — might be coming. Here’s a breakdown of the related litigation that’s still pending. What’s next for Fox?In some ways, this isn’t the end of Fox News’ legal headaches. It’s only halftime. While the right-wing network will avoid having to apologize or issuing an on-air retraction over the false Dominio...Latest news
