Bragg says Trump created ‘false expectation’ on potential arrest

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:43:26 GMT

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) for the first time on Thursday addressed a claim by former President Trump that he would be arrested in connection to an investigation into a hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, calling it the creation of a “false expectation.”Bragg, in response to demands by House Republicans to force his testimony and turn over all documents and communication on the case, wrote in a letter to Congress that such a move was an “unprecendent[ed] inquiry into a pending local prosecution.”“The letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene,” Bragg wrote.Trump wrote in a Truth Social post over the weekend that he expected to be arrested on Tuesday in connection to the probe, but as of Thursday morning, no charges have been announced and the grand jury weighing the case is not expected to meet for the rest of the week.In a S...

Creamy one-pot pasta with chicken and mushrooms recipe

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:43:26 GMT

By Mark Bittman, The New York TimesCooking pasta the way you would make risotto may sound new and hip. But it’s at least old enough to have been demonstrated to me in Rome in 1976, and I imagine as old as pasta itself. In this method, the liquid is minimized: there’s no need for a gallon per pound of pasta. The liquid is added gradually to the pasta, which absorbs it completely and thereby retains its starch. This makes the pasta creamy and rich; it also gains the flavor of the stock. You can use pretty much any pasta shape you like, but timing will vary depending on size. This approach may seem like more work than making pasta in the ordinary way. But as the making of the “sauce” is integrated into the pasta-cooking, it really becomes a one-dish meal — as interesting as risotto, and even a bit quicker. Here is a combination of gemelli with mushrooms and chicken to get you started.Yield: 4 servingsTotal time: 45 minutesIngredients2 tablespoons olive oil, more as needed1 shallo...

Armenia: The Caucasian ally of Russian aggression against Ukraine

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:43:26 GMT

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that Armenia is a post-Soviet democracy in the Caucasus oriented toward Western values.” This could have been the opening line in an article about Armenia in a better world, but it can hardly be said about Armenia in 2023. What concerns its Soviet past and geographic location is still relevant, but its commitment to democratic Western values and rule of law is highly questionable - writes James Wilson. The Russian aggression in Ukraine has exposed the ugly truth about Armenia and its participation in the conflict on the side of the aggressor. On November 23, Russia fired missiles at the maternity ward of the hospital in Volnyansk, Zaporizhia region (a newborn baby was killed), a residential house and a clinic in Kupyansk, Kharkiv region (two dead), residential buildings in Kyiv and Vyshgorod, Kyiv region (7 dead). More missiles targeted Poltava, Vinnitsa, Lviv regions, Odessa, Dnipro, and Mariupol. On the same day Prime Minister Pashinyan welcom...

Bake It: Cinnamon Shortbread with Chocolate Hazelnut Drizzle

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:43:26 GMT

This cookie recipe combines the satisfyingly crumbly texture of a classic shortbread with all three of my favorite gelato flavors — cinnamon, hazelnut and chocolate. Who says you can’t have it all? This cookie is the perfect pairing for that afternoon coffee or steamed chai latte. And the secret to the shortbread’s crunchy texture is — you’ll never guess — Cream of Wheat. The Cream of Wheat adds a lovely crunch to the dough, but you can substitute cornmeal or cornstarch for a similar crumbly texture. Not a fan of hazelnuts? Try toasted almonds or walnuts instead.Cinnamon Shortbread with Chocolate Hazelnut DrizzleMakes 12 to 14 cookiesINGREDIENTS2/3 cup whole hazelnuts1¾ cups flour½ cup Cream of Wheat (uncooked)½ cup granulated sugar½ teaspoon cinnamon1 cup butter, room temperature½ cup chopped semisweet chocolateSea saltDIRECTIONSHeat oven to 300 degrees. When the oven is hot, place the hazelnuts on a baking sheet and bake them for 5 to 8 minutes or until fragrant.
