For those of us who cover games through the state championships, we have reached the halfway point.Eight weeks to go after this one before we put a bow on the 2023 season. In our all-in-fun Bay Area News Group picks competition, I am having a great time. I went 13-3 last week to stretch my lead over Mike Lefkow to seven games and Joseph Dycus to 17 games.Give Dycus (aka The Kid) credit. He has taken some chances. If all goes his way this weekend, he can cut six games off my advantage. Lefkow has a shot to trim five games off the deficit. The big game this week is the one Lefkow has talked about for weeks: De La Salle at San Ramon Valley. Will history be made Friday night in Danville? Will De La Salle lose to a North Coast Section team for the first time since Pittsburg beat the Spartans in 1991?We discuss that game in great detail in our video roundtable, with Lefkow noting that John Ben Pau Mendoza’s absence at running back for SRV is a huge deal. Sweeping views of the Golden Gate bridge, Alcatraz Island and San Francisco’s skyline have dominated aerial shots for 49ers television broadcasts for years — after all, it’s the team’s namesake. But it’s been nearly a decade since the NFL team played in the City by the Bay after its 2014 relocation roughly 40 miles south from Candlestick Park to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and national broadcasts still pan San Francisco’s cityscape before and after commercial breaks. Many South Bay Niners fans have had enough, taking to social media in recent weeks to bemoan the lack of Santa Clara aerial footage, particularly following comments made by sportscaster Al Michaels during a Sept. 21 Thursday Night Football game between the 49ers and the New York Giants on Prime Video.“Have you ever noticed we come here and all of our aerials are from 44 miles away?” Michaels said. The longtime play-by-play announcer called San Francisco “beauti...

How motorcyclists can more safely split lanes: Roadshow

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:30:53 GMT

Q: My question regards lane sharing. Frequently motorcyclists are traveling much faster than vehicular traffic, and are not always easy to spot when changing lanes. The motorcycle handbook was more valuable in this case. The motorcycle handbook places great emphasis in all sections on motorcyclists’ responsibility to keep themselves safe. This handbook says of lane splitting, “Riding between rows of stopped or moving vehicles in the same lane can leave you vulnerable...
